Now as far as Decorating and Design goes - that would not have surprised me one bit. As a kid, I used to carefully cut the home plans from the back of my mother's Home & Garden magazines and spend hours arranging them by square footage into different piles of preference and imagine how I would decorate them for all the lavish parties I would throw as a grown-up. Instead of playing with dollhouses, I was building them and sewing custom miniture dollhouse decor.
A funny thing happened that changed the way I saw myself and my world. Like many people, I grew-up thinking that "creative clutter" meant I was fun, artistic, and talented. As I grew older I began to see a trend in others that was the proverbial "handwriting on the wall" for me. Although talented and creative, these individuals lacked the organization and functioning necessary to channel their gifts into anything of real consequence. I knew I was not going to be like that.
I discovered how much more you can achieve and how much easier, that's right, easier, life can be when you get out of your own way and get organized. Not only that, but an inspiring environment can truly expand your frame of reference for what is possible in your life. Many people don't know this, but whatever is going on in your inside world (mental, emotional, etc.) is reflected in your outer world and clutter and chaos is really just a way of hiding from true potential and a more fulfilling life. Doesn't that sound nice, a more fulfilling life?
I was transformed once again as I was just beginning my freelance practice and thought I needed a stable, corporate-y type of job to help out during the business start-up pangs. I interviewed with an amazing executive and she asked me one simple question - one that I had heard before and thought I'd answered - but she asked it in a way that I finally knew what it meant to truly answer it. She asked me, "What is it you want to do?"
After much serious consideration I had an honest answer. It was less of an "Aha" moment and more of a "Duh" moment for me. I wanted to Entertain, Inspire, and Create. It finally made perfect sense to me that all my life, when I was doing one of those three things, I was at my best. So armed with a multitude of life and work experience in the fields of Arts Administration, Film Production, Hospitality, Corporate Training, Property Management, Freelance Design and a better organized vision for channeling my passion, creativity and talent into something useful ... I arrived here, at Interior O.D. So, how did you arrive here? And now that you are here ...what is it you want to do?
